Privacy Policy
Last updated: 13 October 2026
1. Overview
Caselaw (“we”) respects your privacy. This policy explains what personal data we collect when you use caselaw.co.ke, why we collect it, and your rights. We handle personal data in line with Kenya’s Data Protection Act, 2019.
2. What we collect
- Account data — your name and email address, handled by our authentication provider (Clerk) when you sign up or sign in.
- Usage data — the pages you view, searches you run, and cases you bookmark, annotate or save, so the Service works and improves.
- Payment data — when you subscribe, our payment provider Paddle collects your billing details and processes payment. We do not store your card details; Paddle is the merchant of record.
- Technical data — IP address, browser and device information, and cookies needed to keep you signed in and secure.
3. How we use it
To provide and secure the Service, process subscriptions and payments, remember your preferences, respond to support requests, prevent abuse, and understand aggregate usage. We do not sell your personal data.
4. Cookies
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in, to remember your theme choice, and (where enabled) to meter free usage. You can control cookies in your browser, but some features may stop working.
5. Third parties
We share data only with the processors that run the Service: Clerk (authentication), Paddle (payments and billing), and Cloudflare (hosting and storage). Each processes data under its own terms and only as needed to provide its service.
6. Retention
We keep account and usage data while your account is active, and for a reasonable period afterwards to meet legal, tax and accounting obligations (payment records are retained by Paddle as required by law).
7. Your rights
Under the Data Protection Act, 2019 you may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, object to certain processing, and withdraw consent. Contact us to exercise these rights.
8. Security
We use encryption in transit and access controls, and rely on reputable processors. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data.
9. Changes
We may update this policy and will post the new version here with a revised date.
